At the University of Milan-Bicocca, the second edition of the Summer School “Rethinking the Culture of Tolerance” was opened today. This year, the focus is on the topic “Minorities in Democracy”.

The opening lecture was given by Carmen Leccardi, full Professor at the Department of Sociology of the University of Milan-Bicocca.

Speaking about the culture of tolerance, Carmen Leccardi – the current Chair of the ESA – European Sociological Association – maintained that, if we look at time and transience through the lens of tolerance and sociological thinking, we can link not only geography and history, but past, present, and future, as well.

Participants of the Summer School could later attend lectures by Marina Calloni, Professor at the University of Milan-Bicocca, and Goran Marković, Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of East Sarajevo.

22 graduate students from several European universities have enrolled in the second edition of this summer event, with about 20 distinguished professors involved to deliver lectures.

The school has been organised by the University of Sarajevo, the University of East Sarajevo, and the University of Milan-Bicocca.

The Summer School was founded in cooperation with the research centres Etnicos, Diaforà, and Pragsia, and the Department of Sociology and Social Research of the University of Milan-Bicocca.

Supporting institutions include the University of Banja Luka, the University of Belgrade, the University of Eastern Piedmont, the University of Glasgow, the University of Ljubljana, the University of Milan, the Woolf Institute in Cambridge, and the University of Zagreb.

The Summer School program will extend over the whole week till next Sunday, 20th September, included.
